Herb Meditation

We’d like to invite you to turn your morning drink preparation into an intentional experience. By sipping a warm cup of tea, we can slow down and connect with ourselves and the natural world around us. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to use tea and herbs as a tool for meditation.

Step 1: Choose What to Steep

The first step is to select a tea or tisane that resonates with your current state of mind. For a calming session, we recommend something with chamomile, lavender, passionflower or skullcap. Each herb carries its own unique energy, so take a moment to feel which one might support you in your intentions for the day.

Step 2: Set Your Space

Find a quiet, comfortable spot where you won’t be disturbed. Light a candle, place some calming music on in the background, or simply enjoy the sounds of nature. Create a space that feels safe and inviting.

Step 3: Brew Mindfully

As you steep your tea or herbs, bring your full attention to the process. Feel the warmth of the water, the scent of the plants, and the gentle sound of hot water pouring into a cup. This simple act of observing your senses can be meditative in and of itself. Let yourself move slowly, noticing your breathing as you complete the task.

Step 4: Sip and Breathe

Once your drink is ready, take a small sip and close your eyes. To enhance your experience of its taste, keep your mouth closed after swallowing, and exhale out of your nose. With each sip, focus on your breath. Inhale deeply, allowing your body to fill completely. With each exhale, let go of any tension or stress. Focus on the sensation of the tea — its warmth, its flavor — and feel how it nurtures your body.

Step 5: Reflect

As you continue drinking, consider turning your attention inward. Focus on the plant friend you’ve chosen to sit with and meditate on their qualities. Perhaps reflect on their known healing properties, or simply feel their presence in your body. Where do you notice sensation? Is it a warming, a tightening, a buzz? Allow yourself to be fully immersed in the moment, embracing peace and stillness. Journal your thoughts.

whispers of mint,
